I just saw my GP and she's changing me over from The Mercy Hospital to The Northern in Epping. The clinic will take care of it all for me and call me with an appointment time. I think this will be much better. The Northern has a very good reputation and it is much more accessible by public transport than The Mercy. I feel very good about this change.
Of course I need to learn how to thread the thing first. My last sewing lesson was in Year 10 at school. I have to admit that I feel a bit intimidated by it. I've read the manual and plugged it into the wall but haven't had the courage to turn it on yet. Well I don't want to start sewing while William's around because he'll want to take over and treat it like a toy, the results of which could range from annoying to disasterous. It's better to wait until he's at kindy. In the meantime Heath brought an old desk we had on the veranda in to the computer room, knocked out the drawer underneath so my legs could fit under there. This will be my sewing table, and I've been turning the area around it into a sewing and craft "nook". It's been fun and has also created more space in that room. It's looking a lot more welcoming and even somehow tidier. I hope it doesn't take me too long to get the hang of it. I have great ambitions for this machine.
My uni results are all in at last and I am very pleased to say I got As (Distinctions) for both of my last two subjects. This means that I have a solid B average of 76.9%. Half of my grades are As. And this means that I stand a very good chance of being accepted to do honours next year. YAY!
Well I've had enough of the hospital. I'm going to see if I can change to the other one in this area, and if not perhaps I can go back to the Royal Women's in Carlton. It might be a long way from here but at least they never treated me like clueless crazy white trash who doesn't deserve to be a mother. *scowls*
It's coming up at the end of this week. We went to Toys R Us this week and bought presents for him. We got a big bucket of Lego and a set Lego that makes 3 cars. He's very into both cars and Lego at the moment. We got him a little play mat with a town and roads printed on it. And we got him a set of two light sabers that I'm sure he'll love because he loves anything to do with Star Wars... and cars, and Transformers, and Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Garfield.
Actually it's not just for the baby, while I was looking at the IKEA catalogue I found a few things that I just know William already likes or would like. If you click on an item with your mouse it will take you to the item's wist page where you can read my comment about it. From there is a link (in blue text) to the item's webpage.
I did make up a Wist (wish list) for the baby under the name Bebe_Heath. Click here to see it.
There isn't much on there yet. It's really a way to remind us of all the stuff we need to have, plus a few things that would just be cool anyway like the baby leg warmers. I've put Avent products on there because the bottles and teets were easy to replace at local chemists when William was a baby. I suppose I should double check that this is still the case in our present location. All the products work well together and are cheaper than other similar products like Tommee Tippee.
Sorry about that. Well, most people IRL know that I am pregnant with kiddie #2 and due 24th September. It is pretty exciting, and scary, and annoying with all the indigestion and mobility problems. It seems I have a problem known as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) which mainstream medicine is either too indifferent or too namby pamby to treat. From talking with various women it turns out that it's quite common especially with a second pregnancy and the only treatment is through an osteopath or chiropractor. Luckily a friend of mine has an osteo with a very good reputation and whom she loves to death. He also sees pregnant women and gives discounts to people with Health Care Cards. Whoopee! So I'll be making an appointment with him as soon as I've got the dosh.
Tonight though I'm more interested in saving money on nappies by getting cute and colourful cloth nappies. No more giant triangle nappies now (unless you really want and I don't). Cloth nappies are much better designed now. Perhaps I wouldn't use them every day but it would be far better for the environment if I did. They would at least be good for the times that we run out of (evil but convenient) disposable nappies. As we'll be getting a nice new big washing machine given to us very soon we should be able to manage the extra washing just fine. A stash of cloth nappies is pretty expensive to fork out for at first but it'd be worth it.
I'm thinking of starting up a new Wist (online wish list) just for baby. For some reason I can't get myself logged back into my old one. I've got a better idea about what we need this time and of course we still have some stuff left over from when William was a baby. Believe it or not there are actually some things that survived his Bubzilla phase. ;) This is not to say "hey world - buy me this". It's to remind me of what I need to get and where I can get it, or the sorts of products that might make life easier this time around. I hope to actually make some things myself after this semester at uni ends but who knows if it will actually happen. When it comes to me and craft, there are no guarantees. I've not made a single thing since semester started. I blame the hormones.
A couple of weeks ago I finally had the courage to dive into the reconstruction of a dress. Previously all such attempts on t-shirts had been very disappointing. This time however it came out well, despite the itchy "invisible" nylon thread I used. I sewed it all by hand.
It went from this to this and this.
And then I wore it out to a club. I had a lot of trouble getting my Mac to take a photo that had the whole of the dress in it without the photo becoming just a big blur with no detail.
